The 4. International Porcelain Biennale took place at the Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen from November 30,2024 to April 13, 2025.
No place in Europe is as synonymous with porcelain as Meissen. At the Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen, the first porcelain production facility in Europe, the technology was developed, the secrets of the material were explored, and artists transformed them into forms.
The Porcelain Biennale aims to raise public awareness of porcelain as a plastic material. It aims to foster an understanding that porcelain can and is a means of artistic expression, of content and message. The exhibition at Albrechtsburg Castle in Meissen thus serves as a showcase for contemporary porcelain art in Saxony, Germany, and Europe.
We have invited artists from Germany and abroad to the Biennale who reside in an EU country and who experiment with the ceramic material porcelain and are creatively active in the field of fine art. The Biennale is open to all artistic expressions of porcelain, with the exception of mass-produced art. The exhibition is thus also a homage to the artist who, in an increasingly fast-paced world, dedicates himself to a lengthy and difficult creative process.
The special exhibitions were supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, the Meissen Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains Cultural Area, the City of Meissen, and the Friends of Albrechtsburg Castle Meissen.
A catalog was published for the exhibition and is still available at the Albrechtsburg Castle.
